Marine ecosystems
Did you know that oceans and seas contain multiple different ecosystems such as: wetland, estuary, mangrove forest, coral reef, and sea grass…? Estuaries and mangrove forests act as nurseries for baby fish. Coral reefs are fish’s shelters, where they can find food and be protected from predators. Mangrove forests and coral reefs also protect beaches from inundation and sea storms. Without these ecosystems, the ocean will lose crucial creatures, leading to degradation in biological diversity (how diverse species are). Furthermore, these ecosystems are tightly interconnected in the circle of life. For example, a baby fish born in the mangrove forest will move to live in the sea grass bed, then the coral reef once it has reached adulthood, and eventually returning to the mangrove forest to breed.
Let’s learn about some typical ecosystems in Vietnam.
